Chateau Valrose 2004 Cuvee Alienor Saint-Estephe, ~$25 at Wine Library ****. Splurged for a fancy dinner with the wife. Recommended by Wine Librarian, who said I would be back for more. Guess I look like some kind of high-roller.
Anyway, just as I hoped/feared, the wine was pretty amazing. Really smooth, I might say velvety. Long and complex. Really nice evolution. Dried cranberries and cassis. A hint of sea salt. Intriguing citrus element, let's call it meyer lemon. Worth the step up from my normal price range, but mustn't make it a habit.
